Once an applicant passes the licensing exam, they will receive a license from the DBPR, usually within one to several days after passing the exam. This license is not active and the applicant cannot practice real estate yet. The license holder must activate their license by affiliating themselves with a Forida licensed real estate Brokerage, under the supervision of a Florida licensed real estate Broker. The Broker will activate the license holder's license after the license holder agrees to the terms of the Brokerage affiliation. Affiliating oneself with a real estate Brokerage is also called "hanging your license with a Brokerage"
Before the licensee's license expires (within 2 years after initial licensing), it's necessary for the licensee to complete a 45-hour post-licensing course. If the post-licensing course is not completed by the license expiration date, the license will become null and void.
Lutz School of Real Estate encourages all students to complete their 45 hour posting licensing education as soon as possible to avoid losing their license. This course can be completed as soon as the license is obtained.
After the initial 45 hours of post-licensing education is completed, Florida Real Estate Sales Associates need only to complete 14 hours of continuing education every 2 years in order to renew their licenses.
